The World TB Day in Kaluga
The "Your Health is in Your Hands" photo exhibition took place in Kaluga
As part of the "White flower of life" action organized on the World TB Day, the "Your Health is in Your Hands" photo exhibition took place in the Kaluga Basic Medical College on March 23-24.
The organizers were: Kaluga Regional Youth Charitable NGO "Healthy Future", Kaluga Basic Medical College, Regional Branch of the Red Cross, supported by the "FOCUS-MEDIA" Foundation.
35 celebrities, including Dr. Roshal, TV presenter Elena Malysheva, actress Catherine Strizhenova, actor Valery Zolotukhin, were photographed with their X-ray films in the hands. The campaign slogan was “Be Informed!".
A white daisy, which gave its name to the action, was chosen symbol of combat against tuberculosis in 1911 at the initiative of the All-Russian Anti-tuberculosis League. And since that time, it has been always a symbol of the activities on raising the awareness of tuberculosis in the society, a symbol of hope and care for tubercular patients worldwide.
The aim of the action in 2010 is to raise awareness of as many young people as possible about tuberculosis, the ways of infection with and prevention of the disease, the need for care of their health, as well as the need for assistance to TB patients on their recovering.
During the action the visitors - teachers and students of the Medical College, Kaluga State Educational University, Kaluga secondary schools - were provided with information about tuberculosis and made white daisies out of paper. The visitors enjoyed the "healthy drinks" from natural juices, which reminded of the importance of proper nutrition in preventing tuberculosis.
The Medical College volunteers were raising funds for tubercular patients in the streets of Kaluga. The raised 20 447 rubles will be used to buy food (juice, fruits, protein products) for children infected with TB.
